Laser treatment of the gums for crown lengthening, frenectomy and gingivectomy, usually with less bleeding than a blade.
Book an appointmentThe Solea is a dental laser used here for soft-tissue procedures: treatment of the gums and the small folds of tissue around the teeth. It is not used for fillings.
Crown lengthening
Where a tooth has broken near the gum line, or is too short to hold a crown, exposing a little more of the tooth gives the crown or filling something sound to hold onto. The same technique evens out a gum line that sits low on the teeth or does not match from one tooth to the next.
Frenectomy
A frenum is the small band of tissue that attaches the lip or the tongue to the gum. Where it is tight or attached too close to the teeth, it can pull on the gum, hold teeth apart or restrict movement of the tongue. A frenectomy releases it.
Gingivectomy
Removal of excess or overgrown gum tissue, whether to treat pockets around the teeth, to tidy tissue that has grown over a tooth, or to correct a gummy smile.
Why a laser
Laser soft-tissue work generally means less bleeding than a blade and, in many cases, no sutures, so any restoration that follows can often be started sooner. The area is numbed first, as it would be for any other procedure.
